How we measure DNS speed
Every 72 hours, our probe infrastructure sends standard A-record queries to each of the 109,644+ servers in our database. We measure the time from sending the UDP packet on port 53 to receiving the response. Servers must maintain at least 95% reliability with no persistent errors to appear in this ranking.
Latency depends on geographic proximity and network peering. Our probes run from Europe, so servers with nearby anycast nodes will naturally rank higher here. Your results from a different region will differ. For full methodology details, see our testing methodology.
Test from your location
These rankings reflect our probe location in Europe. The fastest DNS for you depends on your ISP and geography. Run a benchmark from your own network to find your optimal server.

Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest public DNS server?
Based on our probe data from Europe, the fastest DNS servers are typically Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8), with response times under 10ms. However, the fastest server for you depends on your geographic location and ISP.
How do you measure DNS speed?
We send raw UDP queries to port 53 of each server and measure the round-trip time in milliseconds. Servers must maintain 95%+ reliability to appear in our fastest rankings.
Does the fastest DNS server change?
Yes. DNS latency depends on network routing, server load, and geographic proximity. Our rankings update every 72 hours based on fresh probe data from 109,644+ servers.
Should I always use the fastest DNS?
Speed matters, but reliability and privacy are equally important. A server with 5ms latency but 85% reliability will cause more problems than one with 15ms latency and 99% reliability. Our Gaming Benchmark measures speed from your actual location.
