Frequently asked questions

What is a DNS dig lookup?

A dig (Domain Information Groper) lookup queries a DNS server to retrieve DNS records for a domain. It shows the raw DNS response including record type, TTL, and value.

Which record types can I look up?

You can query A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), MX (mail), NS (nameservers), TXT (text), CNAME (alias), SOA (authority), PTR (reverse), CAA (certificate authority), and SRV (service) records.

What DNS server is used by default?

If you do not specify a server, the lookup uses the system default resolver. You can select any public DNS server from the dropdown or enter a custom IP address.

Is my query logged?

Results are cached for 2 minutes to reduce load. We do not store query logs beyond the cache period and do not associate queries with individual users.
